Gregor Townsend scoops PRO12 Coach of the Year

GLASGOW coach Gregor Townsend has scooped the Coach of the Year title at the RaboDirect PRO12 awards in his first season as a head coach.

The former Scotland stand-off, 40, pipped Ulster’s Mark Anscombe and Treviso’s Franco Smith to the award after his side claimed a record number of wins during the campaign and finished in third place overall. Glasgow also had most players in the “Dream Team” – Stuart Hogg, Niko Matawalu, Ryan Grant and Al Kellock. They travel to the RDS Showground in Dublin to face Leinster on Saturday night bidding to reach a first final.

The Players’ Player of the Year award went to Ulster’s back row Nick Williams, who has scored six tries in 16 games. Team-mate Luke Marshall collected the Young Player of the Year title.
