Glasgow rue loss of Duncan Weir for play-offs

GLASGOW head coach Gregor Townsend’s pleasure at seeing his side secure a RaboDirect PRO12 play-off spot has been tempered by the news that stand-off Duncan Weir will miss the rest of the season – and most likely the start of next – after sustaining a serious leg injury during Friday’s 35-17 win over Ospreys.

Weir – who had kicked two conversion and a penalty – was stretchered off at Scotstoun following lengthy treatment and, while the full of extent of his injury has yet to be confirmed, Townsend said: “Duncan will miss the rest of the season and probably be out for the start of next season which is a real shame for him.

“For him to miss out on the last couple of games will be disappointing but there will be other players who can take their opportunity and play for Duncan.”

Second-placed Glasgow wrap up their regular season in a fortnight with a visit to Connacht, knowing that a top-two finish in the table will earn home advantage in the play-offs.
