George Turner swaps Edinburgh Rugby for Glasgow Warriors

Hooker George Turner, who toured with Scotland in the summer, has joined Glasgow Warriors on a '¨season-long loan from Edinburgh Rugby.

The 24-year-old former Stewart’s Melville College pupil has been with Edinburgh for a number of years, but has struggled for game time behind Ross Ford, Stuart McInally and Neil Cochrane.

As a result it was a surprise that he went on the national team’s tour to Singapore, Australia and Fiji. Although he did not get a cap, it is clear Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend rates him.

And with Fraser Brown out for up to four months he will now compete for the No 2 shirt at Scotstoun with Pat MacArthur and James Malcolm as the 2017/18 season begins.

Turner said: “It’s exciting to join the Warriors.

“I know the players who were on the Scotland tour and I know a couple of players who were at Edinburgh before and are now here so it has been an easy transition and easy getting
started.

“Forwards coach Jonathan Humphreys was really keen to get me on board and I spoke to him when he was a Scotland coach and around Edinburgh, so I know what he’s looking for me to bring here and hopefully I can deliver.”
