Fergus Pringle bows out at Boroughmuir

DEPARTING Boroughmuir coach Fergus Pringle watched his men bid farewell to the RBS Premiership with a defeat against a well-drilled Accies side.

For the visitors, the motivation was threefold. The overwhelming goal was to ensure top-flight survival, while a secondary spin-off was the possibility of playing in next season’s British & Irish Cup. The players also wanted a winning finale for retiring skipper Dan Teague, whose involvement ended after just 23 minutes when he sustained a shoulder injury.

Rob Cairns scored the opener and Ally Warnock converted before Callum Reid capped a powerful drive by the Accies pack when he touched down in the corner, Ruaridh Bonner’s conversion tying the score at the break.

Robin Snape emulated Reid’s effort and Alex Allan hurtled over for try number three as Accies raised the pace in the second half. However, a penalty by Warnock brought the home side back to within striking distance, and it was injury time before Ruaridh Young dotted down for the bonus point try and Bonner converted to complete the win.

Reflecting on his four year association with the club,
Pringle said: “We’ve had some good times. This has been a realtough season and we unfortunately have to go down but there’s a good core group of players that, if they stay, can come back.”

Pringle’s Accies counterpart Simon Cross was a happy man. He said: “To come out and get those four tries and a win against a really good Boroughmuir side – I’m delighted with my boys today.”
