Cup joy for Murrayfield Wanderers

Hillhead had the upper hand in the early exchanges at BT Murrayfield yesterday and it was no great surprise when they took the lead through a try by Megan Gaffney. However, Wanderers hit back with two tries in three minutes on the half-hour mark from Helen Nelson and Chloe Rollie, the Scotland full-back racing up the left wing and diving over for the second.

Wanderers stretched their advantage further in the 47th minute.

Once again Rollie went over and skipper Lisa Martin converted to make it 17-5.

Hillhead got a lifeline through a Jemma Forsyth try, going into the last 20 minutes seven points behind.

But Wanderers killed off the match with a Rhona Lloyd double, the second try coming after a 70 metre burst up the wing by the Scotland cap.

Martin kicked a penalty at the death to clinch it.

Meanwhile, Watsonians and Glasgow University also picked up trophies on the back pitches.

Isla Millar scored two tries for Watsonians as they beat Stirling County 25-22 to win the BT Women’s Plate.

Glasgow University defeated Howe Harlequins 15-0 to claim the BT Women’s Bowl.
