Clapperton adds to the feelgood factor for Muir

Boroughmuir head into this afternoon’s RBS National League Edinburgh derby away to Stewart’s Melville on the back of their longest-serving player reaching a special milestone.

Seven days ago, the Meggetland men opened up their season with a 40-19 home win over Hillhead/Jordanhill. And in that match, director of rugby Malcolm Clapperton made his 250th appearance for Boroughmuir.

It is quite an achievement by the man who earned six Scotland club international caps between 2008 and 2010 and his partnership with new recruit Alex Cox in the centre will be key for ’Muir this season.

’Muir are boosted by the return of No 8 Iain Moody from injury. Stewart’s Melville have former captain Scott Brewster available in the second-row. Mike Hanning has not recovered from injury so John Coutts moves to full-back in his home debut and Dave Hampton comes in at centre.

Early leaders Dundee HSFP have prop Gavin Robertson injured as they prepare to take on Hillhead/Jordanhill at Mayfield.

He is replaced by Steven Longwell, while Kiwi back-row Alexander Wright makes his debut. For the visitors, AJ McFarlane and Nick Finlay move positions, the former at scrum-half and the latter at stand-off.

Watsonians head for the Borders to take on Selkirk at Philiphaugh with just one change to their starting line-up, Ally Ledingham coming in at centre, with Scott McKean unavailable. The home side have Callum Marshall and Darren Clapperton back.

Kelso travel to Biggar with Corey Venus making his debut at full-back and Ian Wallace coming in. Peebles and GHA meet at the Gytes.
