Former Scotland international Jim Hamilton had claimed a move to take the Glasgow lock to the second-tier English club was a “done deal”.

In an appearance on his weekly podcast The Rugby Pod, Hamilton was discussing Bristol Rugby’s transfer policy with Andy Goode, the former England and Leicester Tigers fly-half.

Hamilton said: “I have heard Jonny Gray to Bristol is a done deal - for 400 bags of sand [£400,000].”

However, The Scotsman understands that that is not the case.

Gary, who is out of contract at the end of the season, is still considering signing a new deal with the Scotstoun club.

If he does move on, France is a possible destination for the 35-times capped Scotland forward.

Both Gray and his brother Richie were linked with Bristol last month.

Richie Gray is currently with Toulouse, after spells with Sale Sharks and Castres Olympique.
