Glasgow flanker Chris Fusaro has signed a new two-year contract with the club.

The 24-year-old made his Scotland debut in their RBS Six Nations loss to England last weekend, having made 64 Warriors appearances since joining the club in 2010 and captained the side on occasions this season.

His new deal will keep him at the Scotstoun until 2016 and he said: “Since joining the Warriors I’ve never looked back and I’m delighted to be staying at the club for another two years.

“I’m enjoying working with the coaches and my game has really developed over the past few years.

“I was so proud to make my Scotland debut on Saturday and although I was very disappointed with the result, I will never forget the experience.

“I believe the best place for me to be is in Glasgow, as it’s a club with a very bright future with success on the horizon.”

Fusaro, who is a product of Bell Baxter High School and Howe of Fife, was voted Glasgow’s players’ player of the season and supporters’ player of the season in 2012. He has represented Scotland at all three age-grade levels from under-18 to under-20 and has played for Scotland sevens and Scotland A, before making his senior debut in the 20-0 defeat by England on Saturday.

Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend added: “It’s fantastic news for the club that Chris has decided to stay and continue his development in Glasgow.

“Chris has had a very good season, which has led to him winning his first cap. He put in a really courageous performance for Scotland.

“He displays leadership qualities every day at the club and has been our captain on a couple of occasions this season.

“Chris epitomises what you want to see in a rugby player and is very well respected by everyone in the group.”

Glasgow captain Al Kellock was delighted with yesterday’s signing news, and tweeted: “Great news for the club that @chrisfusaro21 has signed a new deal. Great player with and great attitude (and he supplies the ice cream.)”
