Bowl finals: Colts tipped for success

PEEBLES Colts complete a trio of Borders teams appearing in tonight’s youth finals at Murrayfield, where they face Hamilton on the back pitch at the international ground.

The Tweeddale side, drawn mainly from Peebles High School, who will be in action next week for their Brewin Dolphin Scottish Schools Bowl final against Morrison’s Academy, will go into tonight’s match as slight favourites having achieved good wins in both the quarter-finals and the semi finals.

In their quarter-final, Peebles enjoyed an impressive 54-0 win over Dumfries and in the penultimate round they overcame Glasgow Hawks 20-14 to book their place in the final.

For Hamilton, their appearance in the Bowl final is reflective of the excellent coaching being done at the club, building from the bottom upwards with the hope of feeding players through to the senior team. Hamilton reached the Bowl final with a 14-3 win over Lasswade and then a 36-12 victory over Ellon.

In the under-16 Bowl Ayr face Highland. Ayr had a walkover against Gala Red Triangle and in the semi-final beat Mackie 60-29. Highland used a double home advantage to defeat Glasgow Hawks 48-12 in the quarters before a 27-24 win over Musselburgh.
