Gala scored four tries to achieve a fine away victory that puts them above Boroughmuir in the league table and the battle to avoid the play-off place, writes William Paul at Meggetland.
The Borders side opened the scoring with a penalty by stand-off David O’Hagan followed by an unconverted try by No.8 Ewan Dods. But as Boroughmuir pressed, Dods went to the sin bin for deliberately killing the ball and Gala survived half a dozen close-quarter scrums before Dods’ teammate Callum Rowlandson joined him there. Then a clever inside pass from a lineout put the Muir hooker Cal Davies in at the corner. David Reekie converted. A second Muir try by lock Sam Gibson made it 12-8 at half-time.
Gala were restored to full strength after the break and O’Hagan kicked a second penalty to narrow the margin to a single point. Then Gala went ahead as full back Graham Speirs dived in and Alan Emon barged over nearer the posts. O’Hagan converted the second try.
Muir fought back and an attempt at a pushover resulted in a penalty try. Reekie converted. But Gala then snatched the bonus point try through winger Craig Robertson.
