Boroughmuir slip into top gear to humble Kelso

The Edinburgh club led 16-0 at the interval before they went up a gear to record a 51-0 victory and remain undefeated. Centres Alex Cox and Malcolm Clapperton led the way for ’Muir with two tries apiece. Sam Johnson and Joni Hare also crossed, while David Reekie had a top day with the boot, kicking 21 points with six conversions and three penalties.

Watsonians too improved markedly after the break to stay unbeaten. In the first half against Dundee HSFP at Myreside, the leaders were quite sluggish and a few handling errors stopped them from getting into full swing. At that stage, the hosts led 11-10, their points having come from a James Forrester try and two Ben Di Rollo penalties. In the second 40, further tries came from Mike Ker, Matt Page and Scott McKean, with Di Rollo and Ker also kicking points.

In the 36-15 loss, Dundee HSFP’s points came from a fine individual try by Bryce Hosie, one from Nick Alston and a penalty and conversion from Hosie’s boot.

Selkirk went into third place after they managed to win the Borders derby against Peebles at the Gytes. The men from Philiphaugh won 31-6, Kiwi Ricky Fluhler continuing his great start to the season with two tries. Josh Welsh and Fraser Harkness also went over, with the former also kicking 11 points.

Biggar are yet to get off the mark after Stewart’s Melville beat them 22-16 at Inverleith. The hosts secured a bonus point thanks to four tries from Alan Whittingham, Ben Wilson, Jonathan Hamblin and Christy O’Donnell with Mike Hanning kicking one conversion.

Hillhead/Jordanhill’s first win came when they beat GHA 26-18 at Braidholm. The visitors’ tries came through David Mitchell, Christopher Butler and Blair McPherson while Ryan Holland and Andrew Leslie shared 11 points with the boot.
