Ayr’s Climo in line to face Glasgow and Edinburgh

A MAN who helped guide Ayr to league glory in 2008/09 and Scottish Cup success the following season has joined the Scarlets and could come up against Edinburgh Rugby and Glasgow Warriors this term.

Kiwi Frazier Climo arrived at Millbrae in 2008 as somewhat of an unknown quantity, but by the summer of 2009 everyone in Scottish rugby knew about him after he scored over 350 points from stand-off to help Ayr finish top of the pile.

The following season he was a force too, eventually playing his part as the club picked up the Scottish Cup at Murrayfield with a 36-23 victory over Melrose.

Midway through his third season in Scotland, 2010/11, he returned home to New Zealand after being offered a training contract with Taranaki.

And he has performed suitably well for them in the last couple of years, mainly in the back three, to have been given the chance to sign for the RaboDirect PRO12 Welsh pro side.

Now 26, Climo said: “I am delighted to be joining the Scarlets, which is clearly a club with a great history and brilliant, passionate supporters.

“It’s a region that’s known and respected around the world and I am honoured to have the opportunity to link up with such a great club.

“Having spoken to Simon Easterby about the very young and talented squad based in West Wales, I am extremely excited to play a part in the club’s ambitions this season.”

Scarlets head coach Easterby said: “We are very pleased Climo is joining us. He’s been a standout for the provincial side Taranaki in the NPC over the past few years.

“We look forward to what he can bring to what is already a very talented and Scarlets back line.”

Climo will join the Scarlets in early November subject to visa applications being cleared in the next few weeks.
