Rugby: Stew-Mel welcome back Scott Riddell

Scotland Sevens cap Scott Riddell has returned to the club where he learnt his trade to help Stewart's Melville's Premier C campaign.

The 25-year-old was set to make his comeback against Jed-Forest this afternoon in a new-look centre pairing with Seb Trotter.

A former pupil at Stewart's Melville College, he turned out for the club for a season and a half after school, making fleeting appearances for the first XV, before heading to Northumbria University.

While in the north of England he turned out for the student side and then in recent seasons has played for Darlington Mowden Park and Blaydon while doing some coaching for the RFU locally.

He has now returned to Edinburgh and said: "It is great to back at Stewart's Melville amongst friends and I am enjoying being here once again and hopefully we can have a strong end to the season."

Riddell, who is usually a back-row, was part of the Scotland Sevens squad who finished sixth in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi recently.

"That really was a great experience, to be involved in an event with all the different sports was interesting as was getting to know the other sportsmen and how they operate."
