Rugby: Relentless Preston smash 600-point barrier with win

Darren EALES led the way with two tries as Preston Lodge broke the 600-point mark for the season with their 12th victory in RBS East One on Saturday.

This week they saw off Berwick 69-19 at the Pennypit and they seem unstoppable this term. They now have a 12-point lead over Duns in second.

As well as Eales’ double, Greg Kinross, Keith Duncan, Andrew Clark, Ryan Gray, Andrew Archer, Greg Leitch, Jonny Brash and Chris Dixon scored tries, while Berwick also conceded a penalty try.

It means that in their dozen league matches to date, the men from East Lothian have scored 602 points and conceded just 88.

Nearest challengers Duns themselves got a bonus point win, putting Forrester to the sword 48-3. It means Forrester remain third bottom.

In the only other match played in the division, Portobello went down 13-10 at Hawick Linden in a mid-table battle.

RBS East Two leaders Dunbar and second-placed Dalkeith saw their respective matches against Moray House and Gala YM postponed and it was not a good day for other local clubs.

Broughton were defeated 37-7 on the road at Earlston, while Penicuik were humbled 41-10 at home to Hawick Harlequins who are in third spot.

Second-placed Leith defeated Liberton 85-3 at Academy Park in RBS East Three with RDVC also clocking up a home win 23-15 against St Boswells.

The two other matches in the division were postponed.
