Rugby: Porty come good at Dunbar

Portobello improved in the second half to secure a good win at Dunbar in the Regional Bowl.

The preliminary round encounter was always likely to be a test of Porty's recent good league form and so it proved.

However, they eventually came through 34-12 at Hallhill with tries coming from Rory Thompson, Chris Thomas, Connor MacLeod and Andy Coop.

Portobello will now travel to another East One side Trinity Accies in round one with that tie due to be played on November 27. Elsewhere, Inverleith had a day they would rather forget on Saturday when they lost 68-0 to Duns in their preliminary round match.

Liberton too suffered at the hands of Border opposition at the same stage of the event, crashing out 57-3 at Gala YM.

The big wins for Duns and Gala YM sets them up for round one matches with Earlston and Penicuik respectively.

The Edinburgh Northern against Lismore tie was not played and they will try again this coming Saturday to see who takes on Hawick Harlequins next up.
