Rugby: McWilliam haunts his old club with brace for Lasswade

Carl McWilliam scored two tries against his former side on Saturday as Lasswade stayed top of National One.

The full-back's brace helped Lasswade to a 55-7 win over Murrayfield Wanderers at Hawthornden, with the New Zealander having only come out of retirement in the last few weeks. The visitors took an early 7-0 lead before Lasswade's game clicked into gear.

The Midlothian men scored nine tries with Neil Clark chipping in with two and Neil Durie and Dale Robertson also among the scorers.

The victory leaves the leaders two points clear of Greenock Wanderers who beat Livingston 18-16 on Saturday.

Garnock are third after they went to Peffermill and defeated Edinburgh University 27-0. Linlithgow jumped ahead of Murrayfield Wanderers and into third bottom with a 29-0 win over bottom side Irvine. RHC Cougars went down 14-7 at home to Ellon.

Preston Lodge were the only local team to win in National Three. Their 25-0 away victory at Gordonians keeps them in second place behind Marr.

Ross High picked up a losing bonus point away to Helensburgh, but the 29-24 defeat leaves them nine points adrift of Cumbernauld who are second bottom.

Forrester sit eighth after losing 26-3 at GHK, while North Berwick's match at Cumbernauld was postponed.
