Rugby: Livingston RFC pay tribute to club legend Naysmith

Livingston paid tribute to club stalwart Donald Naysmith on Saturday when their first XV took on RBS National One leaders Musselburgh at Almond Park.

The visitors won 66-6 to leave them on course to challenge for the title, but, on the day, rugby took a back seat as Livingston members remembered Naysmith who passed away recently after a battle with cancer. He had been involved with the club for over 40 years in various different roles from player to president and, following his funeral on Friday, a minute’s silence and then a round of applause took place before the match.

Livingston president Peter Bon said: “It has been a tough time for all at the club, but in a way things like this can bring a club together and we owe it to Donald to keep working hard to get the club back to where we used to be.”

This season has been hard for the first team, they have now lost 20 out of 20 league matches and conceded over 1000 points.

Elsewhere in the division, Hawick YM are still just one point behind Musselburgh at the top after a 44-22 win at Kilmarnock. The top two have two and three league matches left respectively in what should be a thrilling finale.

Edinburgh University Blues got a morale boosting win, 20-10 over Linlithgow, while Murrayfield Wanderers lost 28-27 at Langholm and RHC Cougars lost 46-13 at Dunfermline.
