Rugby: Leith skittle students to progress in Bowl

Leith beat Moray House - and the weather - to reach the second round of the Regional Bowl on Saturday.

While most other domestic rugby was off due to snow or frost, the East Two side managed to get Academy Park playable and they were glad they did after beating the students 15-7. The win was impressive because Moray House ply their trade in East One, a division above Leith, and the home side are currently rebuilding their squad with young players.

The Bowl matches which were set to involve Broughton, Edinburgh Northern, Queensferry, RDVC, Dalkeith, Penicuik, Trinity Accies and Portobello were all postponed.

The only other local team from the National or East leagues who managed to get any action at the weekend was RHC Cougars, who lost 58-5 to the Wanderers in Greenock.

The loss leaves RHC in seventh place just behind Edinburgh University.
