Rugby League: Eagles coach tapping his contacts for cup-tie tips

SCOTTISH champions Edinburgh Eagles will choose from an 18-man squad for tomorrow's opening Carnegie Rugby League Challenge Cup tie at Gloucester University.

Coach Angus McNab, meanwhile, is hoping to gain some inside track on the opposition from student rugby league contacts.

He said: "Andy Kelly the Ireland head coach also heads up the rugby league programme at Northumbria University and they have faced them already this season, I'm hoping to chat to Andy.

"Also, a number of Scotland players I work with have faced Gloucester in the University Super eight competition. They say they are a very physical team who like to throw the ball about so hopefully we can force a few errors, be very controlled with our own possession and build pressure."

Last season Eagles became the first Scottish challengers to progress past the opening round before bowing out to Leeds Carnegie University.
