Rugby: Lasting legacy to Bill

A LASTING legacy to Scotland's "voice of rugby" Bill McLaren is being planned.

The Evening News has learned that discussions have been taking place for the past 15 months to honour Mr McLaren who has died, aged 86. It is expected a visitor centre will be created along the lines of the Jim Clark Room in Duns, which honours the life of the Scottish world motor racing champion.

John Thorburn, secretary of Hawick rugby club said he hoped such a venue would attract fans from around the world. "Bill was an icon who deserves a lasting legacy."
