Rugby: Lasswade strengthen position at the top

Lasswade tightened their grip on pole position in National Division One when they saw off Irvine 38-13 in the top versus bottom clash at Hawthornden.

The bonus point win has extended Lasswade's advantage at the top of the table to three points after second placed Greenock Wanderers escaped with a narrow 17-15 win from their trip to face Edinburgh University.

Livingston lost further ground on the leaders when they were edged out 14-10 at home to Langholm but there were better fortunes for Linlithgow. The West Lothian club celebrated its 40th anniversary with a 20-17 win over Ellon to move up to fourth place in the table.

In Division Three, Preston Lodge had their promotion challenge dented by a 21-12 loss at Helensburgh. The Pennypit men led 12-10 entering the final quarter, with Chris Guiney and Chris Dixon bagging a try apiece, but the hosts hit back for the win. Meanwhile, North Berwick also tasted defeat, losing 15-0 away to Cambuslang.

Ross High's clash with Orkney was postponed after the visitors' ferry crossing was cancelled.
