Rugby: Jacobsen and Lamont wait to find out if they'll hit 50

ALLAN JACOBSEN and Sean Lamont will learn later today if they are to join an elite group of players who have attained 50 rugby caps for Scotland.

Only 28 players have previously achieved the notable feat and so far as 32-year-old Jacobsen is concerned, maybe it was to be expected from the moment he was labelled one of the best loose head props in the world.

That accolade came from Scottish scrum coach Massimo Cuttita and before Saturday's 21-17 win over world champions South Africa, of which he was a key element.

Cuttita said: "Allan is the best in the world along with the Australian loose head (Benn Robinson). He has improved so much."

But as he looked ahead to possibly facing Samoa in Aberdeen on Saturday, former Preston Lodge prospect Jacobsen was only concerned about ensuring Scotland do not take a backward step.

"After losing heavily to New Zealand I was really glad the fans turned up to see us against South Africa.

"We felt we had let everyone down and hopefully the win was our way of repaying people.

"I am proud to be a part of it," he said.

Jacobsen knows what Scotland need to do now. "We have to keep fronting up and making tackles. That was the basis of a win which is up there with anything I have achieved."
