Rugby: Easson tips Kennedy for great things

Edinburgh scrum half sensation Sean Kennedy is set to emerge as a strong challenger to Greig Laidlaw according to the coach who helped shape the 22-year-old’s career.

Bryan Easson, head of 
Edinburgh’s elite development, savoured the way Kennedy debuted in the win over Ulster 
after returning from a loan spell at Glasgow.

Now Kennedy will have to wait to learn whether he is involved at Zebre on Friday but Easson says: “I was very pleased with Sean’s play last weekend.

“It’s been a difficult season for him starting at Edinburgh as a development player then going to Glasgow because of injuries, but he has been in a very good environment at Glasgow and when he came in last week he controlled the game.

“Sean speaks well and his work rate is phenomenal.

“Certainly he will be someone who will learn from (Scotland No.1) Greig Laidlaw.”

Speaking at the annual Macphail Scholarship 
announcement, Easson hinted that threequarter Dougie Fife could be next to complete the journey from youth ranks to the Scotland team with special mentions for Hamish Watson and Robin Hislop.

“When you look at Dougie Fife he is strong and really quick,” said Easson.
