Rugby: Defeated Currie earn praise from Leeds

Former Scotland under-20 threequarter Dougie Fife’s fourth try of the season was not enough to save Currie from an opening British and Irish Cup defeat when they went down 31-16 at Leeds.

Jamie Forbes converted the try, which came late on, and also had three penalties but in their second appearance in the competition the Malleny Park outfit will still be seeking their first win when they entertain an Ulster XV on Friday.

Despite the disappointment Currie returned from Yorkshire with praise from their hosts who had gone into the game on the back of five straight wins in the second tier English Championship.

Coach Diccon Edwards said: “Currie were a good side, we didn’t know what to expect and I thought they came to challenge us . . they fought hard and put us under pressure.”
