Rugby: Craig cool for North Berwick

STAND-OFF Grant Craig held his nerve to knock over a late conversion from the touchline to help North Berwick stay on course for a league and cup double on Saturday.

The East Lothian outfit have already secured the East One title, but needed to show all their battling qualities to see off Duns in the Scottish Hydro Regional Bowl semi-final at Recreation Park.

Heading into the final few minutes North Berwick were 20-14 down to last year's Plate runners-up, but a try by acting captain Jamie Dove gave them hope in the 75th minute. Craig, who had earlier kicked two superb long distance penalties, then managed to convert from wide out to put his side 21-20 in the lead. And despite late Duns pressure they held on to book a date at Murrayfield with Caledonia One title chasers Strathmore on Saturday, April 24.

North Berwick president Fraser Proctor said: "It has been a great season for the young squad and hopefully we can go to Murrayfield and win to top it all off."

Meanwhile, despite beating Allan Glen's on Saturday Trinity Accies were relegated from National Three. They won 22-7, but Ross High's 22-11 victory at Lenzie means the Bangholm club will be playing regional rugby next term. Forrester defeated Hawick Linden 39-9 and along with Ross High will be staying in National Three in 2010/11.

And in East Two Queensferry ended their comeback season with a 20-19 win over RDVC, their fourth positive result of the campaign.
