Rugby: Club stars to be honoured

FORMER Scotland captain Andy Nicol will host a special awards dinner at Murrayfield to celebrate the achievements of the country's club rugby stars.

The event will take place in the stadium's President's Suite on Friday, 21 May and will salute the contribution of the club game.

Awards available include the Premier 1 Player of the Season, Youth Coach of the Season and Women's Club Player of the Season, with all aspects of the game celebrated.

Scottish Rugby president Jim Stevenson said: "The evening has already captured the imagination of the clubs and I'm looking forward to a night which embodies everything that is good about the game in Scotland. I look forward to welcoming players, officials and supporters from all the clubs."

Nicol added: "It promises to be a special evening. It's nice when clubs and individuals get recognition for their achievements in the game.

"There are a lot of good things happening in Scottish rugby at the moment and it is good to be able to highlight that success."

The awards dinner is specifically targeting Scottish rugby clubs and all club members and supporters are being encouraged to attend.
