Rugby: Capital boost for Currie bid

Currie will field Edinburgh scrum half Chris Leck and second row Steven Turnbull in their starting line-up for Saturday’s British and Irish Cup clash with Nottingham at Malleny Park.

On the bench will be the Edinburgh trio of Andy Kelly, John Houston and Gregor Hunter as Currie bid to follow up last weekend’s ground breaking tournament win at Swansea. Returning from international sevens duty is Mark Cairns and coach Ally Donaldson said: “All teams in our group have won a match apiece – we have an outside chance of qualification.”

Nottingham, who include former Scotland under-20 flanker Jonny Baird, son of ex-Grand Slammer Roger, are fourth in the English Championship and both Meggetland and Murrayfield are on stand-by should Malleny Park prove unplayable.

“This will be a good measure of improvements since opening against Leeds,” Donaldson added.
