Rugby: Bradley’s cup runneth over after triumph

Points flowed like runs as Edinburgh came back from 20-44 down to score six tries to their opponents’ five. Bradley said: “I’ve never known a rugby match like that - it was cricket.”

The Irishman added: “At 17-3 ahead after eight minutes and 17 seconds gone I looked at the scoreboard and thought ‘good’.

“When I looked at half time we were 31-20 down to a Racing side who were fantastic with ball in hand.

“It was a stunning comeback, At one stage that game was lost.

“It had been nice to see our tries going in – then all of a sudden we were blown away.

Edinburgh finally sealed victory with three minutes left when Greig Laidlaw converted Tim Visser’s second try from the touchline.

Bradley added: “What a treat to be involved in a game like that with Greig able to stand over the ball in the last play we had and convert. It would have been difficult to take if we had lost but difficult too for Racing who scored 47 points and didn’t win! You won’t get a better game than that and I don’t know how many times in the professional era Murrayfield has risen to give the home team a standing ovation at full time. It was a fantastic occasion.”

Mike Blair came off the bench at half time for Harry Leonard with Greig Laidlaw switching to stand off from scrum half.

Bradley explained: “Harry has a very balanced game. Greig is more of a runner. Things started to happen for us when we went to Benetton (Treviso) and beat a team who had won four in a row and we carried that on to London Irish then into this match. Now we have nine points from our opening two games.”

Another key substitution came when Tom Brown emerged and claimed a try in the frantic finale which saw Racing down to 14 men after a sin-binning.

One worry for Edinburgh was an injury sustained by Matt Scott in the 20th minute.

Bradley said: “Matt took a knock on the hip which we will be looking at.”
