Rugby: Award ideal send-off for Scott

Matt Scott has been handed a boost ahead of leaving on his first Scotland tour to Australia and the South Seas later this week after being installed as a honorary member of Currie rugby club.

The 21-year-old centre, who debuted from off the bench against Ireland in the RBS Six Nations this season, received the honour at the club’s annual dinner which also confirmed another Edinburgh threequarter, Dougie Fife, as their ‘player of the year’. Fife made regular appearances for Currie outwith Edinburgh commitments while Scott was the first player to come through the ranks from mini rugby to full international status.

Jamie Forbes was named ‘Players’ Player of the Year’.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh will face a team run completely under the auspices of the Italian Federation in the Rabo Direct Pro 12 League next season after a bid by the Viadana club to replace the now-defunct Aironi side in that competition was rejected by the governing body.
