Rugby: Ally calls for Currie response

CURRIE coach Ally Donaldson is urging his men to learn from the mistakes that contributed to defeats in their opening two matches of the competition when they meet Swansea at St Helen’s in the British & Irish Cup tomorrow.

While the benefits of the competition have been evident when the Malleny Park side have returned to domestic duty – the blistering start to their RBS Cup tie against Boroughmuir was a case in point – a maiden win in Currie’s second appearance in the competition continues to elude them. Donaldson, who has enlisted the help of Capital rivals Heriot’s to bolster his squad and has new Glasgow Warriors pro Finlay Gillies at hooker, said: “We hope to use the lessons we learned from our matches against Leeds and Ulster where we have performed to a high standard but are still chasing our first B&I win.”

The hosts have had mixed fortunes this season and currently sit in the lower half of the Principality Building Society League table. And, like their opponents, Swansea have lost each of their two opening matches in the British & Irish Cup.
