Ross Vallance wins through in snooker championship

Corstorphine snooker ace Ross Vallance’s hopes of winning a fourth East of Scotland Snooker Championship remain on course after defeating Frank O’Leary (Leith) in the opening round at the Bert Demarco Matchroom at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange.

Vallance made breaks of 71 and 67 in a 3-1 victory. He now meets David Brydon (Borders) in the last 32 knowing victory could set up a clash with former Scottish National Champion Paul Cairns. Three-times champion Keith Chalmers faces fellow Corstorphine player Colin McAlpine in the last 16.

Mike Leslie, father of Bonnyrigg professional Michael, is also through to the last 16, and he has yet to drop a frame after 3-0 wins over Hugh Eldon (Edinburgh) and Fraser Kelly (Borders).
