Rose makes Cardiff switch

Capital basketball player Rose Anderson, who is probably Scotland’s best chance of making the Great Britain team for next year’s London 2012 Olympic Games, has moved to Cardiff to join Welsh champions UWIC.

The former Edinburgh Kool Kat, who spent last winter on a rowing scholarship at the University of Central Oklahoma after completing her basketball eligibility, has linked up with the Great Britain assistant coach and under-20 coach Damian Jenkins, who also coaches the UWIC women in the English first division.

“I enjoyed Damian’s coaching at the World University Games this summer and I need lots of work if I’m to make the Olympic team next year,” explained Anderson, who was the only Scot in the GB senior team who played in the Eurobasket Finals in Poland last June and one of three Scots who went with the British Universities team to Shentzhen for WUGS.

“Taking a year out for rowing didn’t do me any favours so I’m here to get in shape and focus on fundamentals,” said the Portobello High FP. “I’m enjoying it.”

Anderson is the younger sister of former Commonwealth boxing gold medallist Kenny Anderson.
