Rosalie Bonheur ready to brew up winning return

Clive Cox’s charge won each of her three juvenile outings and while none of those races would have been the best of its type, plenty of winners have emerged from those who finished in behind.

Her initial maiden win at Ripon was probably nothing to write home about, but the daughter of Siyouni impressed with a battling win on her first try in handicap company at Salisbury before following up at Newmarket on her final outing last September.

The fact this filly never wins by far means the handicapper cannot have been too harsh and, off a mark of 79, Rosalie Bonheur appears to be sitting on a handy mark.

Rozene struck gold at Ripon earlier this month and is taken to repeat the trick in the Racing UK Anywhere Handicap at Redcar.

The Sleeping Indian filly made an impressive seasonal bow when holding off Lexington Place by a length in what was probably only an ordinary event, but she looked good value for the winning margin after making all.

Rozene can line up off an unchanged mark here and as she is in foal, David Barron will be keen to make hay while he can.

Distain looks a likely type in the Racing UK 1 Price 3 Devices Median Auction Maiden Stakes after having to settle for second on her racecourse bow at Ascot earlier in the month.

Hailing from one of Khalid Abdullah’s established families, Distain had to give best to a nice filly in French Dressing when beaten a length and a half over 10 furlongs. That was an effort packed full of promise and her Ribblesdale entry perhaps gives an indication of the regard in which she is held.

Fox Norton makes his debut for Neil Mulholland in Huntingdon’s Book Your Whittlebury Hall Spa Day Novices’ Chase and he is a fascinating newcomer to the fencing division.

Formerly trained by Nick Williams, Fox Norton looked a possible star in the making when winning at Grade Two event at Doncaster back in December 2013 but he has had his issues since and been limited to just four subsequent outings.

Those runs included an excellent placing at Grade One level at Punchestown last spring while he was last seen when returning from another lengthy break to win a competitive handicap event at Taunton.

Fox Norton has not run since that outing in February, but he clearly has a touch of class and it will be interesting to see if his hurdles rating of 145 translates to chase company.

Bescot Springs is the pick in the Dad’s Day Handicap Hurdle at Hexham after a couple of placed efforts at Perth.

• George Margarson is hoping some stalls practice will work the oracle with Lucky Kristale when she has her next start in the Leisure Stakes at Windsor next Monday.

The Newmarket trainer believes a good start is essential in sprints and his filly has been lacking focus in that department. She made a pleasing seasonal debut in the Abernant Stakes at Newmarket but then ran no sort of race in the Duke of York Stakes on the Knavesmire.

Margarson has put a line through that last effort and Lucky Kristale has been pleasing him in her work. He will give the 2013 Lowther Stakes scorer another stalls exercise on Thursday ahead of the six-furlong Listed race at the Berkshire track next week.
