Rory McIlroy has clubhouse lead in Ohio

Rory McIlroy finished his second round of the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio with the clubhouse lead after carding a level-par round to end the day on six-under-par for the tournament.

The Northern Irishman had shared the overnight lead with American Chris Riley, but he took advantage of his earlier tee-time to pull clear of the field.

McIlroy, 22, picked up three bogies in his front nine but pulled two shots back with birdies on the second, fifth and seventh. A good back nine, in which he carded a further three birdies, was damaged by a double-bogey on the par-four 14th and another bogey on the 18th.

By contrast Riley had only just started his second round as he looked to reel in McIlroy ahead of today's third round.

Australian Rod Pampling shot an impressive second-round 66 to move up the leaderboard into second place, tied with American duo Ricky Barnes and Jonathan Byrd.

Chris DiMarco and Josh Teater were a shot off the lead after their opening rounds and were due to tee off together later yesterday while Stewart Cink, who had also been within touching distance of the leaders, was approaching the end of his second round on par and two shots off McIlroy.
