Rood's awakening . .

IN what has been a highly-successful and remarkable season, Holy Rood High School under-15 team have made a clean sweep in the Edinburgh Secondary Schools' FA.

The team were given a boost when they received sponsorship from Laing O'Rourke, the builders of their new school, who gifted a second set of strips and a full set of accessories to go with them. The squad played through the entire season with only two defeats blotting their otherwise 100 per cent record – one in the Scottish Cup and the other in the league.

In their penultimate league game, they lost to James Gillespie's High School but regained their confidence to beat Craigmount High School 2-0 in the head-to-head for both the League Cup and League Shield at Meggetland. The team next played Musselburgh Grammar in the final of the South East Region Cup – a competition for teams in the Edinburgh and Lothians area knocked out of the Scottish Cup up to the third round – and won 3-1.
