Redpath set to be named Sharks coach

BRYAN Redpath is poised to become the new coach of Sale Sharks.

The Premiership team’s Scottish owner Brian Kennedy is a fan of Redpath, the current head coach at Gloucester, and an announcement confirming the appointment of the 40-year-old Borderer is expected to be made soon.

However, it is possible that former Scotland scrum-half Redpath could see out the season with the Cherry and Whites before taking up the reins at Sale.

The move is believed to have the backing of Sale’s director of rugby Steve Diamond, who has been acting head coach since Kennedy sacked Tony Hanks a few weeks ago.

On Saturday, Gloucester were booed off the field at Kingsholm after suffering a 20-29 defeat to Newcastle Falcons. Redpath said: “It was bitterly disappointing. There are going to be some questions thrown at us, and we must stick together and deal with it, not brush it under the carpet.”

Gloucester face Sale on Saturday, with both teams competing for the last spot in next season’s Heineken Cup.
