Rangers' Steven Davis prefers taking centre stage

HE IS one of the top performers in the country, but Rangers midfielder and Northern Ireland international Steven Davis is not even playing in his best position.

His efforts have not gone unnoticed this season though. Davis has been nominated for the PFA Scotland player of the year award. "It's a massive thing to get nominated by players who you play against week in week out," said Davis. "I know when you are picking a candidate that you put a lot of thought into it. It's a big thing, really."

He added: "I prefer playing in the middle of the park, but this season has been a learning curve for me playing on the right side.

"I'd never really done it until I came up here. I know the manager likes to play me there because it gives good balance to the side.

"I've been quite happy with how I've done there, although I played in the middle of the park in December and I think that was probably my best period of the season."

Asked who he voted for, Davis replied: "My first vote was for Andy Webster. He has been a massive player and when he hasn't played Dundee United have missed him.

"My second vote was for Aiden McGeady. He's always a tough player to come up against and always a handful when you're playing against him."
