Raith boss says Musselburgh manager deserves SFL chance

JOHN McGLYNN has advised Scottish Football League clubs to take a chance on his nephew David on the back of him guiding Musselburgh Athletic to the Scottish Junior Cup final.

The Raith Rovers boss endorsed David as a manager more than capable of handling the transition to senior football, believing he could revive some lower league clubs with his enthusiastic approach.

Musselburgh face Auchinleck Talbot at Rugby Park tomorrow in the showpiece ending to the Junior campaign. Their rise under David McGlynn hasn't gone unnoticed and John believes his nephew more than merits a step up to professional football.

"I would suggest that David would certainly do a job in senior football," said John, himself a former player and manager of Musselburgh. "It needs someone to give him an opportunity and a chance. The situation has never arisen where he could help Raith Rovers in some capacity because we are cutting back. But the better you do as a manager, the more chance you have of being able to do something at a higher level.

"There are some jobs in the lower divisions that I'm sure David would be very capable of doing if he got the chance. He wouldn't be the first manager to do very well in junior football and then progress to do very well in the senior game. David's profile will have risen dramatically during this Scottish Cup run. Musselburgh are in the Super League and they've won cups already. Someone might just notice that he's doing a lot of good work."
