Racing: Passionateprincess to lead pack at Wolverhampton

Ann Duffield’s youngster did too much too early on her racecourse introduction at Ripon in the spring and predictably weakened rapidly to finish last of eight runners.

It was a similar story when turned out fairly quickly at Beverley, with the application of hood appearing to make little impact as she again pulled away her chance.

However, her third effort at Thirsk in May was a massive step in the right direction. The daughter of Elnadim was at least slightly more tractable and came home well to finish fourth despite encountering traffic problems.

Making her first appearance in almost six months and her all-weather and handicap debut, Passionateprincess is of definite interest off a lowly mark of just 51, with the step-up to six furlongs another positive.

The William Haggas-trained Izmir is an obvious solution to the first division of the 32Red Casino Maiden Fillies’ Stakes. The well-related daughter of Sir Percy ran a race full of promise on her debut at Newmarket last month, despite suffering some trouble in running.

She was not knocked around once the chance of victory had gone, and yet she came home well to pick up minor honours in third. With improvement virtually assured, she should be very hard to beat if taking to the Tapeta.

Make Music holds similarly strong claims in division two. She was not beaten all that far on her Newmarket bow and raised her game significantly when a close runner-up at Newbury almost three weeks ago. That was an excellent effort against the boys and it will be a touch disappointing if she is unable to go one better back among her own gender.

Rock N Rhythm is the pick as he makes his fencing bow in the Tom Jones Memorial HTJ Centre Ltd Chase at Huntingdon.

Jonjo O’Neill’s charge was an impressive winner at Kempton in May, shrugging off a penalty to win by nine lengths and looking the right type to further make his mark in due course.

Dalaman can make a winning start to his jumping career in the EBF Stallions “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle at Lingfield.

The son of Duke Of Marmalade bolted up in a Towcester bumper getting on for a year ago and showed up well in a Listed event at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day. Having been off the track since, he has presumably had his issues, but he is nevertheless an exciting prospect for novice hurdles this winter.

Pure Science is the pick in the Tony Collins Supporting Richard Farquhar Handicap Hurdle at Sedgefield as he makes his debut for Sue Smith.

The former Nigel Twiston-Davies inmate changed hands for just £2,000 at Doncaster in May but he is certainly not without ability and Smith can see a swift return on her investment.
