Racing: Fahey has grand plans for Canyari

The Dandy Man colt won a three-runner race at Doncaster by five lengths on his debut, form which has worked out particularly well with both beaten horses winning since.

Fahey decided to skip Royal Ascot with the youngster to wait for this Group Two test, but as he is so laid back the Malton handler is considering asking Jimmy Fortune to kick on to see what he is made of.

“He’s a horse we like a lot,” said Fahey. “He’s very laid back and we might just ask him to kick on to see what he can do. We think he’s decent, but we might make the running with him and let him stride on.

“The ground shouldn’t be an issue, there’s been no rain forecast so they’ve been able to water with confidence and I’ll be amazed if it’s not nice fast ground.

“We discussed taking him to Ascot with his owner, but it can be a bit much for some horses and blow their minds so we decided to wait for this and we’ve got the option of the sales races later on. Sir John Hawkins is favourite, he was third in the Coventry and we had the second (Parbold). We want to find out how good he is – we think he’s very good.”

Richard Hannon has won two of the last three renewals of the July Stakes with Libranno and Alhebayeb and runs two this time around. Paul Hanagan is on board Anjaal, representing last year’s winning connections, while Brown Sugar is partnered by Richard Hughes. Both were beaten on their debuts before winning next time out.
