The race was won by Elspeth Curran of Kilbarchen AAC who completed the course in a time of 34 minutes and 59 seconds while Olympic judo silver medallist Gemma Gibbons was an official starter.

Participants in the run, which took place in the city’s south side, included Jo Pavey, the fastest female 10,000 metre runner in Europe, and who is expecting a baby in September.

Pavey, who has competed in four Olympics, will walk or jog the course, organisers said.

Thousands of other women took part in aid of their chosen charity.
