Perthshire 14 - 68 Stirling County: Perthshire tossed aside by classy Stirling

The anticipated gulf in class was all too clear as Stirling cruised to what may be their most comfortable victory of the season.

The Premier A side had far too much power and pace for their lower division opponents, and their 11-try haul was manifest evidence of the difference between the teams.

County took only five minutes to get the scoreboard moving when Stuart Edwards chipped over a penalty. Five minutes later Danny Gilmour went over for the first County try, Edwards converting, before Benji Barsanti bullied his way through. Perthshire’s spirited approach was rewarded when Craig Assenti showed genuine pace to race in for a touchdown to which Dominic O’Connor added the extra points.

Barsanti and Graham Lindsay both breached the home defence as their pressure began to tell, but Assenti again raised Perthshire hopes of a fightback with his second try, O’Connor again converting.

County, however, piled on the points, with tries for Danny Gilmour and Lindsay before the break, Edwards goalling the latter. After the interval, Gilmour, Robbie Boswell, Lindsay, Edwards and Mike Doneghan all crossed, Edwards contributing three conversions.

Hats off to Perthshire, though, for a spirited showing against stellar opposition.
