Two up at the turn, the Englishman birdied three out of the next four holes and finished four-under for the 14 holes played.

The Englishman birded five of the first six holes to be two up on the Spaniard and was seven-under as he secured an impressive victory.

Graeme Storm (Eng) bt Tommy Fleetwood (Eng) 2&1

There was never more than a hole between the pair until Storm went two up at the 12th, having needed birdies at the 10th and 11th for halves.

Simon Khan (Eng) bt Pablo Larrazabal (Esp) 2&1

The former PGA champion won the first with a birdie before falling behind after four holes but gained the upper hand again by winning the seventh, ninth and 10th.

Oliver Fisher (Eng) bt Peter Uihlein (US) at 22nd

Two down with seven to play, the Englishman birdied three out of the next four holes before eventially coming out on top in this marathon at the fourth extra hole.

Johan Carlsson (Swe) bt Morten Orum Madsen (Den) 2&1

The Swede only required three birdies - at the second, third and the 11th - as he was helped in progressing by a scrappy display from his opponent.

Robert Rock (Eng) bt Gary Stal (Fra) 3&2

An eagle-3 at the 11th as well as five birdies helped the Englishman come out on top in a battle between two former HSBC Abu Dhabi Championship winners.

Marc Warren (Sco) bt Jorge Campillo (Esp) 3&2

The Scot, a semi-finalist at Murcar 12 months ago, produced seven birdies, including four in five holes from the ninth, to win a high-quality contest.

Magnus Carlsson (Swe) bt Chase Koepka (USA) 4&3

The Swede produced the best morning figures, starting birdie-eagle-birdie and covering 15 holes in seven-under to beat Brooks Koepka’s little brother.

Matthew Southgate (Eng) bt Kristoffer Broberg (Swe) at 19th

The pair were never separated by more than a hole, with the Swede holing a 20-foot birdie putt at the 18th to keep the match alive before losing at the first extra hole.

Michael Hoey (Nire) bt David Drysdale (Sco) 4&3

Drysdale, who lives closest to this week’s venue at Cockburnspath, never really recovered from losing the second and third to birdies from the former Dunhill Links winner.

Richie Ramsay (Sco) bt David Howell (Eng) 1 hole

The Scot birdied three of the first seven holes to be three up but needed to hole a 20-foot putt for a 4 at the last to beat one of last year’s semi-finalists.

Roope Kakko (Fin) bt Gregory Havret (Fra) at 20th

Three down with six to play, Kakko birdied the 14th, 16th and 18th to stay alive before hitting his second to five feet at the 20th to claim victory.

Chris Paisley (Eng) bt Benjamin Hebert (Fra) 2&1

Despite failing to muster a birdie on the front nine, Paisley made one at the toughest hole on the course - the 14th - as he came out on top against his French opponent.

Prom Meesawat (Tha) bt David Lipsky (USA) one hole

Bidding to repeat compatriot Kiradech Aphibarnrat’s title triumph 12 months ago, Thai player Meesawat survived a back-nine wobble to progress, helped by five birdies.
