Paralympic Games: Agony for Sam Ingram has silver lining

EDINBURGH judoka Sam Ingram just missed out on gold last night but leaves London 2012 as a silver medallist.

The visually impaired 27-year-old lost to Cuban Jorge Hierrezuelo Marcillis in the under 90kg crown in front of a raucous crowd at the ExCel.

The match went the full five minutes but Ingram lost by a yuko, meaning it was silver rather than gold he would add to his bronze medal from Beijing four years ago.

“I am gutted,” he said. “It feels like all the training I’ve done, all the physio I’ve done, all the hours I’ve had off my coach and all his time has been close, but no cigar.”
