Oban Camanachd ‘back where they belong’

SHINTY: Oban Camanachd co-boss Peter MacCuish says the club is back where it belongs after Saturday’s 7-0 win over rivals Oban Celtic put them back in the Premiership.

The Mossfield outfit required one win to seal the South Division One title and they did it in fine style, with hat-tricks from Andrew MacCuish and Craig MacMillan and a single from Iain MacMillan.

The victory means Oban, who lost last week’s Artemis Macaulay Cup final, are back in the Premiership at the first time of asking.

And MacCuish, who took over with Gus Campbell earlier this year, believes the club should not be anything other than a top flight club.

“If anything, I think this year has helped us because it has helped us to rekindle that winning mentality. I think the boys had lost a little confidence but now they are back in that winning habit.

“The aim was to get back into the big time and that has been achieved.”

Oban have been let down by poor discipline in recent years but MaCuish believes that is now behind them.

“The boys know that, if there is any nonsense, they are off the park immediately.

“They know that we won’t tolerate any indiscipline.”
