However, having fallen in love with Scotland, the American’s wife and family will remain in the Glasgow area while he commutes from London.

Mike Hooper is standing down as CGF chief and it is understood that Grevemberg will seamlessly slot into the role having been instrumental in the success of Glasgow 2014 since 2009 when he first came on board as chief operating officer.

Now Grevemberg will be actively involved in all aspects of ensuring that the next Games on the Gold Coast in Australian in 2018 will be equally as outstanding.

The former wrestler from New Orleans had already decided that he would keep his family in Scotland in order that they can complete their schooling.

He said: “When I took on the chief executive role I did stop and think. I had been travelling about 180 days a year when I worked in the Paralympic movement and that was really demanding.

“So coming to Scotland was a chance to get my feet on the ground and deliver a project over a period of time.

“My kids and my wife were very supportive even although they knew it would take up so much of my time.

“I have a nine-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy. I have my two wee Scots. They have developed Scottish accents and they have been in the Scottish school system for five years.

“I love Glasgow and I love Scotland. I have found a real home here. I have made some friendships outside of work that will be for life.

“I have been really fortunate for having a great quality of life.

“There is a good possibility I will stay. With the kids heading towards secondary school, I like that stability and I have a focus on that.”
