Murray wins Glasgow 10k to end long Scottish wait

ATHLETICS: Freya Murray underlined her form heading into next month’s Olympic trials by winning the Ignis Asset Management 10k in Glasgow’s Bellahouston Park.

The 28-year-old from Edinburgh, who narrowly missed out on selection for GB’s marathon team for London, was the first Scottish victor of the event this century, finishing in 33 minutes and 36 seconds, almost half a minute clear of fellow Scot Susan Partridge.

Murray, now targeting a place the Olympic 10,000 metres, was satisfied with the performance. She said: “This is the first time I’ve run the Glasgow Women’s 10k, but I’ve heard so much about it that I really wanted to give it a go. After running the London Marathon I’m delighted to have finished first, especially as I’m the first Scottish runner to do so for over 10 years.”
