Moto GP: Lorenzo takes pole for British Grand Prix

MotoGP championship leader Jorge Lorenzo put his Yamaha on pole position at the British Grand Prix on Saturday while Honda rival Dani Pedrosa fell and was taken away in an ambulance.

Lorenzo, title favourite after world champion Valentino Rossi broke a shin, lapped the new Silverstone layout with a best time of two minutes 03.308 seconds. The pole was the 23-year-old Spaniard's first in five races this season and tenth of his career.

France's Randy De Puniet will line up second on the grid on the LCR Honda, despite also crashing on his final lap, after qualifying 0.126 slower. Pedrosa was third fastest.
