Mortigliengo is out in front at Alyth

SCOTTISH U16 GIRLS STROKEPLAY: Italy’s Camilla Mortigliengo has a one-stroke lead at the halfway stage of the Scottish Under-16 girls’ open stroke-play golf championship at Alyth’s Strathmore Golf Centre.

Starting at the tenth, the San Remo player birdied the 11th, short 13th and short 17th to be three-under-par but, like most of the big field, she found holes one to nine a good deal more difficult than the others.

Mortigliengo, bidding to follow in the footsteps of compatriot Laura Sedda, a former winner of the title, bogeyed the first, seventh and ninth for 38 home and a creditable par-matching 72.

Among the pack on her tail on the 73 mark is Clara Young (North Berwick). Gabriella Cowley from West Essex, one of the pre-tournament favourites, is also on 73.
