Olympic silver medallist Michael Jamieson will this weekend compete in the first of six Fina World Cup meets in Moscow.

The British Gas ITC swimmer, who resides in Bath, will be hoping to improve on the fourth-place finish he achieved in the final of the 200 metres breaststroke final at the World Championships in Barcelona at the beginning of August.

However, there will be no respite for the 25-year-old, who will depart the Russian capital to take his place on the blocks in Dubai just four days later.

The circuit will then move to Doha in Qatar before Singapore, Toyko and finally Beijing, conclude Jamieson’s travels on 14 November.

A testing period is anticipated for both Jamieson and his training partner Sophie Allan, 21, who is also set to compete across all six events before the Scotsman returns home to his native Glasgow at the beginning of December as part of the European team that will challenge a strong USA squad in the Duel, a biennial event designed to showcase the sport’s most talented athletes.

With the Commonwealth Games edging ever nearer, the competitiveness of these up and coming events, in addition to the intense training schedule that is designed for a professional swimmer of his stature, Jamieson is hoping to hit peak form ahead of next summer.

Jamieson has become one of the golden boys in wake of his achievements at last year’s London Olympics and will carry the weight of a nation on his shoulders as he bids for a Commonwealth gold in front of a strong partisan crowd.

Hannah Miley is also expected to compete in three of the series’ events, where she is expected to join up with Jamieson in Singapore, Tokyo and Beijing.
